Painting over stained knotty pine.
I appreciate you showing us the process with your budget as well. Jan 21 2020 do you have knotty pine cabinets you want to paint white. Most wood species need at least one coat of primer before painting to seal the pores ensure even coverage and encourage long wear. You can refinish knotty pine to restore the natural beauty of the wood but with cabinet painting becoming a popular trend for budget friendly kitchen remodeling more people are choosing the look of white paint.
The combination worked perfect. Stained knotty pine is more. The walls are good but the cabinets are stained from many hands opening them over the years. When i painting my knotty pine kitchen cabinets i used bin primer and then finished with ultra white floor paint.

You could do a white wash treatment on the cabinets allowing the wood to still peek through. After 10 years the knots did not bleed through and the white has not yellowed. Like i mentioned before here i have been very surprised at the number of people who enjoy the knotty pine look of our cabinets and had many question my idea of painting them. If the knotty pine has been covered with polyurethane you ll probably need to use an oil based primer first because a latex primer won t stick well to the polyurethane surface.
Today i m sharing how we conquered my sister s pine kitchen cabinets and what we used to prevent the knots from bleeding through over time.
